Safeguarding Policy Introduction At ReWild Gower CIC, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is a fundamental priority. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment for all children attending our forest school and outdoor programmes. This policy outlines how we safeguard children and young people participating in our services, including both independent and parent-accompanied sessions, and sets out the responsibilities of everyone involved. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to: •Protect children and young people from abuse, neglect and harm •Ensure all staff, volunteers and visitors understand their safeguarding responsibilities •Provide clear procedures for identifying, reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns •Promote a culture of vigilance, openness and shared responsibility Scope This policy applies to: •All staff and volunteers working with ReWild Gower CIC •Parents, carers and caregivers attending sessions •Any visitors or professionals involved in our activities Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone involved with the service. Safeguarding Principles ReWild Gower CIC is guided by the following principles: •The welfare of the child is paramount •All children have the right to feel safe, respected and listened to •Children should be supported to express their views and feelings •Safeguarding is best achieved through partnership working with parents and carers •We take a proactive approach to identifying and reducing risks Staff Recruitment and Training ReWild Gower CIC is committed to safer recruitment practices. •All staff and volunteers are subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including enhanced DBS checks •References are obtained where required •All staff receive safeguarding training appropriate to their role •Safeguarding is revisited regularly through supervision, discussion and ongoing professional development Only adults deemed suitable and appropriately trained are permitted to work directly with children. Reporting and Responding to Concerns •Any safeguarding concern must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) •Concerns must be recorded clearly, factually and confidentially •The DSO will assess the concern and take appropriate action, which may include consultation with or referral to local safeguarding authorities •If a concern involves the DSO, it should be reported directly to the relevant safeguarding authority No concern is considered too small to report. Code of Conduct All staff and volunteers are expected to: •Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times •Act as positive role models •Use respectful, child-centred language •Avoid unnecessary physical contact, which should only occur to ensure safety, comfort or care •Never use physical punishment or intimidating behaviour Online Safety Although ReWild Gower CIC is an outdoor-based service, we recognise the importance of online safety. •Any use of technology, photography or digital communication is managed in line with our data protection procedures •Parental consent is obtained for photographs or media use •Parents and carers are informed of how images and information are stored and used Working with Parents and Carers We value open and trusting relationships with parents and carers. •Parents are welcomed and encouraged to communicate openly with staff •Clear information about safeguarding procedures is shared •Concerns raised by parents are taken seriously and responded to promptly Review of the Policy This safeguarding policy is reviewed annually, or sooner if required due to changes in legislation, guidance or practice.
